THE CIRCLE OF PERPETUAL CHOIRS

"In late 1983, Earthquest News magazine carried an article entitled The Circle of Perpetual Choirs. A group of researchers, including John Merron and Alan Cleaver, had been tracing an ancient pattern on the landscape originally identified by John Michell from references in the Welsh Bardic Triads. It was a circle of ten sites where ancient choirs were said to have maintained a ceaseless chant, 24 hours a day, every day; hence the name. John Michell's references to The Circle of Perpetual Choirs can be found in his book, CITY OF REVELATION (now available as Dimensions of Paradise). They show an arc of the circle between four of the known choirs; Goring on Thames, Stonehenge, Glastonbury and Llantwit Major on the Welsh Coast. John Merron had progressed the geometry to complete the circle and to investigate whether anything of significance was to be found at the places subsequently identified. As a landscape pattern, the circle of ten sites bore a remarkable similarity to the initial ten point star I had found on the London landscape, although on a much larger scale. John Michell's calculations put the distance between points of the decagon on the Perpetual Choirs' circle at 39.6 miles or 316.8 furlongs.

This year's Mabfest is taking place right in the very heart

"Apart from the obvious similarity in appearance, there is a startling correspondence between John's decagon of choirs and the Earthstars decagon. The length of the Earthstars' decagon sides are exactly five miles each. In inches that is 316,800. The Perpetual Choir's decagon sides are 316.8 furlongs, a remarkable repetition of the figure which surely cannot be a coincidence. Even more remarkable is the factor which distinguishes the difference between these two figures and between furlongs and inches. The number of inches in a furlong is 7,920, precisely the same number of miles in the Earth's mean diameter. The perimeters of the decagons would therefore be 31,680 furlongs (perpetual choirs) and 3,168,000 inches (Earthstars) respectively. The two designs are clearly constructed on the same synergistic principles. Given these proportions, it is easy to calculate the difference in size between the two decagons. Significantly, the Circle of Perpetual Choirs is exactly 7.92 times larger than the corresponding Earthstars circle. At the risk of becoming repetitive, I have to point out that the number 792 relates to the mean diameter of the Earth as 7,920 miles. This cannot be a coincidence.

The parallels between their dimensions may result from their common use of a system of proportional harmony with the planet. Then again, the existence of the Circle of Perpetual Choirs does suggest it was designed and marked with sacred sites in a distant era when there was a greater awareness of phenomena such as the Earthstars landscape geometry. Certainly, it seems to indicate that the Circle of Perpetual Choirs and the Earthstars patterns may be related phenomena. What is more certain is that the standard British units of inches, feet, yards, furlongs and miles were clearly conceived in as part of the same system of proportional harmony resonant with planetary dimensions. With this in mind, I think it is relevant to point out that other British systems of measurement also reflect the Earthstars numbers. Our old UK monetary system, for instance, had units of twenty made up of four fives like the Earthstars circle. There were four crowns in a pound, each crown being five shillings making twenty in all. Incidentally, the druids are known to have calculated in fives and twenties too, as did the Mayans. Another monetary number was 12, the number of pennies in a shilling and months in a year. Our time scale also has parallels with the Earthstars patterns.

"Double the 30-point star to sixty and it becomes the basis of our clock face, which is also divided into sections of five and twelve. In both Stonehenge and the Earthstars design, the 30-point star circle exhibits clues that it should actually be doubled to sixty. The Earthstars 30-point is only directly aligned to the N-S axis. To be aligned to the E-W axis as well, it would need to be a 60-point star. At Stonehenge there would have been sixty stones in the original sarsen ring, 30 upright and 30 lintels on top of them. Do these patterns bear comparison with our divisions of time, sixty seconds in each minute, sixty minutes in each hour ? Time, of course, is determined, not by the movement of hands around a clock face, but by the movements of the Earth as it spins around the sun and rotates on its own axis. We know that the geometry of Stonehenge was dictated by the movements of the Sun, Moon and Earth, so once again, this may be another indication that the Earthstars design is a structure built upon hidden cycles of planetary energies."
